“This just in, a channel five exclusive, at three thirty this morning the abandoned greenberg projects burned down, officials on scene are yet uncertain of the cause, and no one was injured but people came to watch the fire from miles around. The Greenberg projects have been a subject of debate for three years now when it’s owners went bankrupt and subsequently sold it to Sunshine inc. who evicted it’s tenants and since had plans to turn the low income housing into high priced condominiums. We have channel five news correspondent Angela Bennet on scene, Angela, can you tell us what the mood is like downtown today?”
‘Well i’ll tell you John, it’s a veritable melting pot of emotions here today, some people are saying that this fire is payback for Sunshine Inc. evicting the previous tenants of Greenberg Projects, others think the projects were an eyesore and detrimental to the safety downtown Memphis goers and tourists alike, and that the condominiums would have been a vast improve-‘
“ Dude, are you seeing this?”
“Oh, yeah, i used to buy pot there.”
“No, i mean this Angela whatsherface chick, she’s totally hot.”
“Dude, you are a sad sad individual, so did you forget Lumi was coming over today or are you just not going to shower or get dressed?”
“The latter, what does it matter? She’s going to think i’m awesome anyway, she just digs me too hard. Maybe i can curb some of her desire and this will all work out better.”
Lumi is sitting on the couch with me, she is playing with my messy hair.
“I like your hair greasy like this, it’s malleable.”
“My hair is always malleable, or else it would be something different entirely than hair, Lumi, out of curiosity, what do your parents think you are doing?”
“I don’t think they realize that I even leave for a good part of the day or night…”
“Big family?”
“No.”
I look at her sadly and she just smiles.
“So where are we going today?”
“Going?”
“Are we not going out?”
“I was planning on eating cereal and watching cartoons.” I said looking away from her at the television screen, the smoldering buildings, well, smoldered, and Angela seemed to appeal to me to turn her up, voicelessness was doing wonders for her sex appeal though.
“I wish you’d change that.” Lumi looked darky at Angela.
“What, are you jealous of the reporter?”
“No, what even?” She gave me a reprehensible look and then smiled brightly at me. “Let’s go see your room!”
“Hrrmeh.”
Remember when i said kissing Lumi was great? I think i meant fucking unprecedentedly spectacular. It’s alot like the best drug and the worst miracle. It’s as if someone could change your entire outlook on life with a flick of a tongue against yours. As if soft lips and passion could keep out the dread. If i could just keep doing this forever i would be alrig-
“David?”
“Yes?” My eyes are still closed.
“I need to know something…” My eyes open and her dark hair is tentacled out amongst the sheets, it’s so long that i follow it with my eyes and it disappears down the side of the bed.
“Mmm.”
“I need to know you aren’t doing this with anyone else.”
“Why on earth would you need to know that?”
“Why do you think.”
“Look, Lumi. I think you’re great-“
“Shut up.” She jumps up and takes interest in a poster on my wall.
“Is this a band?”
“Catch 22 is a book.”
“Oh, is it any good?”
“Look Lumi, if it wasn’t any good why would i have a poster of it on my wall? I like you Lumi, i really do, but i must say i’m not really look-“
“What’s it about?”
“Eh, sort of a satire on the absurdness of bureaucracy in the face of war, and stuff. I don’t know, look i-“
“That sounds interesting.”
“LUMI I DON’T WANT A GIRLFRIEND!”
“Good, because i just want a husband.”
“I know i’m sorr- wait, what?”
